Enriching human life has been a lifelong quest for Dr. Muhammed Majeed. In this aim to bring benefit to mankind, Dr. Majeed proactively used his scientific brilliance and entrepreneurial spirit to start Sami Labs. This company under his dynamic leadership is a growing company that discovers constituents of plants that prevent the ailments that plague the world. Founded in 1991 (originally called Sami Chemicals & Extracts Limited) Sami Labs Limited, Bangalore is a Research and Development facility in the areas of nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals, standardized herbal extracts, fine chemicals, specialty chemicals, probiotics, and enzymes. Its manufacturing facilities are situated in Kunigal, Nelamangala, Dobaspet, and Hassan in the State of Karnataka, India; Hyderabad in the State of Telangana, India; and Utah in the US.
Dr. Majeed grew up in the fascinating landscape of Kollam, in Kerala. His father, who was in business, passed away when Dr. Majeed was 12. And that was a very bad time around. His mother Fatima, who had not received any formal education, aspired her son Majeed to be highly educated. This fueled his determination to pursue his first love, Science. Dr. Majeed graduated in Pharmacy from the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College in 1973.
Dr. Majeed landed in The United States of America in 1975 with eight dollars in his pocket and a mind full of dreams to fulfill. A fearless man, he was triumphant in everything he did. He went ahead to pursue his Masters in Industrial Pharmacy from Long Island University and became a Junior Scientist at Pfizer. Not satisfied and satiated with his education, he then went on to complete his doctorate in Industrial Pharmacy from St. John’s University. In those years of graduate studies, he would work in the morning at Pfizer and would then spend the rest of the evening pursuing the nitty-gritty of his Ph.D.
Dr. Majeed was passionate about his work and is forthright in his views and opinions. Through his company Sami-Sabinsa Group, he introduced the magnificence of Indian herbs and traditional Ayurvedic wisdom to the global arena. Though Dr. Majeed Foundation he was involved in numerous philanthropic activities, providing quality life to the less fortunate.
